Another fantastic trip to Brisbane

A bunch of my friends and I went backpacking in Australia several years back, and have since fallen in love with Brisbane and go as often as we can. After all, the city has great weather, friendly people, and an endless array of attractions. We just visited there a few weeks ago, and had one of the best times we have had yet!

This time, we stayed at Brisbane Backpacker Hostel, right near the city center. Last time, we had stayed at the Cloud 9 Backpackers for a few days, and it definitely did not fit its name. It was a bit dodgy with bedbugs and really grimy bathrooms. In contrast, Brisbane Backpacker's Resort had a gorgeous pool, clean rooms that are not at all cramped, and a really friendly staff.

One of the first things we did this trip was take a three day long surf trip up to Noosa. Noosa is 1 3/4 hours north of Brisbane, and the waters were surprisingly calm for a surf spot. We were all able to get up a couple times, but there weren't too many waves the day we went. All in all still a lot of fun. We just camped out under the stars, and were able to find an area that wasn't windy and that a local told us would be safe.

The next day, we took a day trip across the really pretty bay there to nearby Fraser Island, which is actually a World Heritage site. There are these insane lush rainforests that jut out from dry sand dunes, and was a totally cool place to hike around.

Back in Brisbane, we headed out to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. We heard it was a lot quieter and cooler than the city zoo, and it was awesome! There were koalas, kangaroos, tasmanian devils, wombats, dingoes, reptiles and a bunch of native birds, and you can feed the kangaroos any time of the day for a really low price. Brisbane has a great public transport system, so we were just able to take the bus straight to and from the Sanctuary.
